Making Play dough with the kids

I love this library card tool... check it out

Last Sunday I asked my 4 year-old what he wanted to do. He immediately said he wanted to make play dough from scratch..... So we did!....Thank God for his big sister helping me......
Recipe Makes 3 1/2 cups

2 cups flour
1 cup salt
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
2 1/2 teaspoons cream of tartar
Food coloring

1. In a medium saucepan, mix together the flour, salt, oil, cream of tartar, and 2 cups cold water.
2. Cook uncovered over medium heat, about 5 minutes, stirring constantly until the dough is the consistency of mashed potatoes.
3. Divide the dough into four equal portions. It should have a soft, smooth texture.

4. Add approximately six to eight drops of food coloring to each portion, kneading the color into the dough to distribute it evenly.

5. Store the play dough in a resealable bag or an airtight container.
